Las Hermanas Wang

eating enthusiastically together since 1984

We collaborated with All You Can Eat Press to create and write the NY Manhattan Chinatown Map. Purchase here

The beginnings of this map started when the younger Hermana Wang was at her very first job as a registered nurse. She could always be counted on to talk too much about food, spearhead the lunch order, or organize the floor potluck (she would even make smoothies for her coworkers at 4am while working the night shift!).

Patients and coworkers would ask for her suggestions of where to eat in Chinatown and she always enthusiastically shared her favorite places accumulated from years of eating in Chinatown.  Soon enough, she compiled a list that she handwrote, made copies of, and stored in her work mailbox.  She would often send patients home with their discharge instructions and her list of recommended restaurants.

Enter the more entrepreneurial, elder Hermana Wang. Always the inspired one, she knew this could be more, with visions of a stylishly designed map. She came upon All You Can Eat Press's collection of beautiful eating maps and knew a partnership could make it happen.

After a few meetings, consulting lifelong Chinatown residents, visits to local museum archives, listening to our grandmas' recommendations of places she used to go to eat weekly, multiple drafts, and never ending "working" meals all over Chinatown, it is here. Also it was featured in GOOP's annual and legendary gift guide
